Junior Membership

We have a thriving junior section, which supports the development of our young golfers, from complete beginners through to regular competition play, in a safe and fun environment.

Coaching, led by our professional team and qualified volunteers, is available for all levels. In addition to our outdoor practice facilities, which include two par-3 holes, we also have a state-of-the-art indoor swing studio.

We run a range of junior events over 6, 9 and 18 holes, depending on the ability level of the players, including monthly junior medal and summer matchplay competitions for those who obtain a handicap.

We field junior teams in matches against other clubs. Our Golf Sixes team is aimed at our younger players who have not yet obtained a handicap, or recently obtained their first handicap. Our Development Team is aimed at players who are wanting to get a bit more experience in matches playing as an individual against their handicap. The Junior Team is for players who are competitive and want to test themselves in a matchplay environment.

Prestonfield has a long history of success from our juniors. In recent years, our junior membership has included the 2022 Scottish Girls champion and the 2022 Lothians Junior Boys order of merit winner.  Our Junior Team won the Edinburgh Inter Club in 2021 and 2022.

Easy Access & Play

The golf course is conveniently located close to Edinburgh city centre and is easily accessed by car, on foot, or by bus. Junior members have unlimited access to our practice facilities and 7-day access to the course during quieter times, as directed by the professional staff. While we do allow young members under 12 to play on the course, they must be accompanied by an adult, who has a basic understanding of the game, for safety reasons. We have beginners’ tee markers out on the course to create a shortened course for our younger or less experienced members. Tee times can be booked online, or by contacting the professional’s shop.

Socialising

With a junior membership card, food and discounted soft drinks can be purchased in the lounge area, where we also hold functions and other events. For example, there is a Christmas party held each year for 3- to 8-year-olds. Parents or guardians of our junior members are welcome to use the clubhouse lounge, which is convenient if waiting for junior events or coaching sessions to finish. The lounge is also a great venue if you wish to book it for birthday or other parties, christenings, weddings, and similar functions.
