Welcome to our lively, friendly golf club. There are many good reasons to join Prestonfield. Here’s just a dozen of them.
Established in 1920 the course was designed by James Braid with the spectacular backdrop of the Salisbury Crags and Arthur’s Seat looking out over Duddingston and to East Lothian beyond. With this imposing backdrop and amongst the mature trees around the course, you could almost be in a quiet country estate yet we are right in the heart of Edinburgh city centre.
The 6200 yard course is both challenging and fair with no severe gradients to tackle. As part of the James Braid Association, our members enjoy discounts at other JBA courses around the world.
Whether social or golf-playing members, members’ guests or visitors you are assured a warm welcome at Prestonfield. Once issued with your membership swipe card you can access all the rights and privileges as a member of this private club. Put credit on your card and immediately start to save on the price of drinks at the bar whether you are there for a quiet drink, attending one of our organised social events or hosting a special occasion of your own.
We are especially pleased to welcome new golfing members with a short induction to help them get the best from their membership.
We’ll take you through all you need to do to get out onto the course by taking you through the website members’ area, making bookings, getting your handicap, entering competitions, meeting up with other members to play with and so on. We’ll even cover some of the rules and explain the different teams, playing formats and many opportunities for social golf and socialising that are available.
We offer weekly competitions for all members with many other opportunities mid week and at the weekend to play for fun, for handicap and for prizes throughout the season.
We host Open competitions to encourage visiting players from other clubs. The format may be for individuals, or in pairs or teams of 3 or 4 players. It may be match-play, stroke-play, stableford for gents or ladies only, either or mixed. Really we have something for everyone whether junior, senior or in between.
Our teams play in local Midlothian leagues and tournaments. Team members get the opportunity to play home and away fixtures against players from other local clubs in Midlothian.
In addition we play friendly fixtures and also have in place a reciprocal arrangement with other Edinburgh clubs to play at their courses for reduced rates, should for example, our Club be hosting a major tournament or competition.
As well as a well stocked shop, our PGA Professional, Scott Clark, and his assistant will ensure you never pay over the odds for your golf equipment. A price match scheme is in operation to ensure you find the best deal for your new clubs, trolley, shoes, golfballs and accessories. As a new member you are entitled to a 10% discount on your first purchase of PGC items of clothing.
Our PGA professionals are on hand to help you find your swing and improve your play. We have created two bespoke teaching and practice areas as well as a practice putting green for members’ use. Members can enjoy lessons at discounted prices.
Our Clubhouse provides an exceptionally photogenic and comfortable venue with stunning views for a relaxing drink, snack or dinner – whether or not you play golf. With meeting areas and a fantastic dining and lounge area available for members’ use, it really is an ideal place to host a wedding reception or other catered social occasion. Members can hire the lounge area with dance floor, bar, and the meeting room at very reasonable rates.
When you and your spouse/partner join as 7 or 5 day playing members, you are entitled to a discount of £100 (total) on your memberships.
We have a growing junior section and are actively promoting golf and the Club through our successful and award winning Club Golf Scheme. This introduces children to the sport and teaches them the basics of the game in a supportive, supervised environment with trained coaches and the opportunity to join the club for a very competitive rate.
Members are entitled to sign in guests to the Clubhouse and onto the course for members’ guests rates. Playing members are also entitled to a members’ guest day in which they can invite up to 12 people to play at guest ticket prices.
When you join us you’re not just joining a golf course! We take the idea of being a club seriously – in a fun way! We regularly communicate news and views via our e-news bulletin, we have active online communities, and our website is designed to encourage members to contribute and feel part of the club.
Of course, this is all with a view to building connections, face to face. So as well as regular social events and competitions, there are many opportunities for members to get actively involved in the upkeep and running of the course and clubhouse and to join together to raise money for worthwhile charities. As volunteers we support a dedicated staff in building the membership and keeping in touch with our long-standing and new members, with a view to providing a great experience for all who come to the Club.
If you need any more reasons to join then please look at our current membership packages. Membership packages are available to suit every pocket and cater for everyone from those with time on their hands during mid-week to those with more limited time to spare.
